Belmullet Heritage Day 2008

Demonstrations and Teach-ins Programme

Teach-ins are fun & informal, pop in or reserve a place on the day. If possible bring along hooks/knitting needles and some thread/wool.

Irish Crochet Lace Making & Crochet with two very experienced teachers and lace makers from Erris, Mary Bradley and Rose Ellen Corduff. From 12 noon.

Crochet with the gifted and experienced Erris Crochet maker and teacher, Eva Healy.

• Turn a heal and learn the secrets of successful Sock Knitting from Susan Coyle, renowned for her traditional knitted socks. From 12 noon.

Felting demonstrations with Clare Ballard of "Felt Fantastic" Studio. Clare sculpts truly individual creatures and characters, using the needle-felt sculpting technique. Visit Clare on Barrack street then arrange with her to attend one of her demonstrations at our tent on Main Street.

• Fine Irish crochet Lace made by Mrs Breege Burke and Miss Breege Burke former managers, Muings Lace School.

• Fine examples of Irish Crochet Lace from Erris (private collections).

Guest Teacher

Maire Treanor is an internationally acclaimed teacher of Clones Crochet Lace, a Clones Lace historian and writer. Maire is in demand for workshops both nationally and internationally. We are deeply honoured to announce that Maire will give a short demonstration, free of charge, using her display boards of antique crochet lace and her own work. Afterwards she will also give a one hour Clones lace making class for which there is a nominal charge, with a maximum of 15 participants, from about 3pm. Guests

The award winning Grange Crochet Workers Group from County Sligo, led by Crochet Teacher, Karen McCullagh, will spend part of the afternoon with us when we can learn about their success and perhaps see some examples of their work. The Fís na Muingi-Iorras Committee extends a very warm welcome to Maire Treanor, Karen McCullagh and the Grange Crochet.
